If they hadn't told you, you probably never would have noticed, this is not
an unknown finish for devices. Possibly you may already have parts like this
from someone else (who naturally won't be specially telling you about any
changes they are going to make).

Subject: [TN] lead free parts...


A major manufacturer is eliminating lead from their caps and resistors
going to pure tin to comply with European standards. How will this affect
our operation which continues to use 63/37 lead based solder?  Are there
storage considerations?  Will this change effect the solder joints in a
detrimental way? Will these new lead free parts grow "tin wiskers" as I've
heard so much about?
