According to paper in the Modern Electroplating book a typical Sulfamate
bath has 500psi stress while Watts bath has 18,000psi stress. Increasing
chloride concentration of Sulfamate bath increase stress to 1500psi. Is this
number too high to be low stress. Is there a range?

Regards,

Sofu

Bret: One word of caution. Simply calling out electrolytic Ni does not
assure you of low stress nickel. All electrolytic Ni is not stress free.
Typically a low stress Ni electroplate is produced with a sulfamate Ni bath
and low brightners/organics. Make sure you call it out correctly

I guess the differentiation between the two should have been electrolytic or
electroless Ni. Thanks for the help.

hi,

for one, low stress nickel plating is associated with electro-deposited
nickel. the bath and plating process are formulated to electrodeposit
nickel with low stresses (no duh, huh?). for all i know, electroless nickel
deposits may have low stress also due to the fact that there ain't much
there, but it isn't referred to as 'low stress' nickel.

We have some prints here which call out low stress nickel followed by gold
and some call out electroless nickel followed by gold. What is the
difference between electroless and low stress nickel?
