You had stated you've been on the list for about two months. This
issue had surfaced earlier in the year as well. Back at that time there
were some posts made on both sides of the fence, however if I recall
correctly the majority of those that did express a view, felt that this
list was a very good place to post positions available.
One of the concerns expressed was fearing that the TechNet would turn
into some sort of electronic want ads...but it hasn't yet! The consensus
was that there was no problem in posts regarding employment, and that if
it grew to a volume of email traffic that required attention, something
such as establishing a separate address, or list for such traffic could
be established.
Just as a comment to one of the concerns that you have about your
engineers possibly being "lured away" by another company...restricting
TechNet access, or censoring the mail will not stop engineers or anyone
for that matter, from leaving a job. Instead of fearing that the free
access of information threatens the stability of your workforce, I would
think it more important to focus why they would be looking for another
job at all.
Just speaking for myself, as long as I am provided fair compensation,
empowered to make decisions while in the performance of my job, and
allowed to maintain a reasonable balance between my personal life and
work, I'm a happy camper! I think that a lot, if not most people feel
just about the same...
