Steve,

2 images came up. Wow, I used to refurbish assembly equipment and haven't seen anything like this either.

Is there a bearing that gets pressed into this?

If so, maybe someone didn't line it up correctly and stressed the gear while pressing it in.

They look like radial stress cracks to me.

Hi all,

I'm trying something with Google photos where you can share multiple images

with a link and I want to see if this works.

We had to have Mycronic (Mydata) come in for our MY19 as we had something

going on with the motion. Our technician here noticed metal particles in

the bearing lubrication of the head which ain't good. The machine has

60,000 hours power on time, so it's been around awhile.

Got the drive belt off and then started looking at things, we were shocked

and at the same time grateful for what we discovered. The toothed roller on

the left hand side of the drive was full of radial cracks and was close to

coming apart and no telling what would have happened if it did. The

Mycronic field service engineer said he's never seen anything like it and

he's been with them in excess of 25-years. Said belt replacements occur

somewhere between 30,000 - 50,000 hours, but he's never seen a roller crack

like this:
