Ken,

Depending upon which silicone conformal coating you are using, there can be
material compatibility issues with the equipment. If you spray your hardware
with polyurethane / acrylic conformal coating, clean the spray guns and then
switch to silicone conformal coating, you may not be able to clean the
spray guns sufficiently removing the silicone conformal coating before going
back to polyurethane / acrylic conformal coating. I learned that the hard
way (pardon the pun) since cleaning silicone conformal coating from a spray
gun is more difficult than cleaning the same gun which was used in spraying
a polyurethane / acrylic conformal coating.

You may want to consider getting separate spray guns specifically for
silicone conformal coating. Mechanically, they would be the same type and
model as your current set-up.

If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me as soon as
possible.

Subject: [TN] Silicone Confromal Coating

Hi TechNet,

We have a customer that wants us to spray Silicone confromal coating on
their boards. We currently spray polyurethane and acrylic.

My question is: Is there any problem adding Silicone to our process? What
art the things we need to consider in adding this process?

Thanks,

Ken Bloomquist
