I'm looking for comments from those who have any experience in attempting
to apply conformal coatings to a hot assembly. By hot I would say equal to
or less than the recommended cure temperature for the particular coating.
I'd be interested in any positives or negatives to having a hot assembly
while applying the coating. Thanks.
=========
It depends on the type of coating and the type of coating process. A
solvent based coating will tend to flash off faster and "freeze" in place in a
spray or selective type application. This can be good for very tight keep-out
clearances and can be bad if you expect coating to flow under devices, etc.
Most silicone coatings will have the opposite reaction. The heat will reduce
the viscosity and the coating will flow further and wet better.
