     Hi Scott-

Sorry but there is no industry "norm" for an allowable time for PWB
storage because of the variables involved. The type of atmosphere, PWB
finish type, finish thickness, PWB fabrication history, type of
soldering process, type of process flux, etc. - get the idea! The
TechNet community might be able to give you some specifics that can be
helpful (i.e. what type of "non controlled" environment are you
worried about?). You could give Doug Pauls an email ([log in to unmask])
on some specific contamination case also.

Does anyone know what is considered the industry norm for the allowable
time one could store boards in an uncontrolled enviroment before
concerns of oxidization or ionic contamination set in? Is cleaning
recommended prior to assembly on boards that have been stored for an
extended period time? Any and all feedback would be greatly
appreciated.
