If you are doing high volume inhouse manufacturer doing 1M/month or more like
3Com, you should consider laser bar coding.
If not there is a system called Zebra that we use when the laser cells are not
working. For more details on this label marking system contact John Bueno
(3Com) at 408-764-6213. Basically the plastic label that is placed after wave
soldering is a hex -adecimal serial number that is used to assign ENet addresses
and to track quality defects at test and de-bug.

| We are looking for a printer that can do small labels
| for serial numbers
| on boards, and possibly barcodes in the future. Our hope
| is to apply the
| label to the board after fab but before assembly, for
| product tracking
| purposes. So the label's gonna be subjected to a reflow
| oven, the
| cleaning chemicals, etc. Does anyone else do this, and
| can you recommend
| a printer and/or label material and supplier? Thanks,

I just got some samples from a company called Computype. A fellow named
Bryan Lee 206-869-6164. The labels he gave me will take 500 F.
