Lautaro,
There are a number of "methods" (over 30 reported) for measuring
the hardness of materials, of which Shore is only one!
From what I understand, the Shore method makes use of a
scleromoter. Basically, a small diamond pointed hammer weighing 2.5g
is allowed to free fall 250mm down a glass tube (graduated into 140
parts) The hardness is related to how far back the hammer rebounds
after its first rebound off the material sample. ASTM E448 has the
basic outline for the methodology, so I would take a look at that if
you are planning on using Shore tests
Other common methods include
Brinell - a 10mm steel ball is pushed into the sample with a set
load and time, hardness is related to the size of the mark
left in the sample. Not very good for very hard materials
See ASTM E10
Vickers - Diamond tipped, square based pyramid pushed into the
sample, again hardness relates to the size and shape of the
mark left behind. See ASTM E92
Rockwell - uses either a 1.58mm ball @ 100Kg (Scale B) or a diamond
cone @ 150Kg (Scale C) this time the output dial indictaes
depth of penetration which can be converted to an
indication of hardness. See ASTM E18
Microhardness machines are used where the sample is either very
thin such as platings or very soft and is often based on the Vickers
or Knoop methods, See ASTM E384
Good Luck,
Roger

Please, send my a message if you know how does the shore harness method
works. I need inmformation urgent!
I must do a work: harness of different materials, any idea?
Thanks!!!!
