Unfortunately, our local Alpha rep suggested that we try disposing of old
paste in the solder wave.

I can tell you, she is exactly right; it will smoke and generally cause
problems, DON'T do it! Your wave solder operator will laugh at you behind
your back and tell everyone this brilliant idea was another stupid waste of
time proposed by those overpaid engineers.

We scrape ours into the dross can and sell it to a recycler.
