To add to this (even if a bit late) We too shut down daily, and have
never had a failure.
Except for the odd PC case mains switch.
And as we have switches on our mains sockets we can turn them off there
& advoid this too.
In summer I often wander around the department at lunch & turn the
monitors off to
try & keep the temperature down.
