We have a desk reference manual:  IPC-DRM-18, Component Identification
$20 IPC members / $40 nonmembers
It is a comprehensive reference manual that contains color phtographs and full
description of more than 40 of the most commonly used through-hole and surface mount
components, interconnections and hardware. Also included is a terminology section
with quick facts on polarity, orientation, lead styles, and CRDs. It also has a
section on band coding.

IPC does not determine the CRDs. I believe EIA or IEEE does.

I am trying to find out if IPC has a specific spec aimed a leaded component
naming conventions for component library shapes. I was thinking that there
might be a spec such as IPC-SM-782 but for leaded devices.
