Good Morning Paul,
If you are a part of an electronic manufacturing operation, you might want
to coordinate your library parts with whatever SMT placement equipment your
assembly folks are using. If not, then pick a standard ans stick with it
for all polarized parts.
One of the tasks I coordinate here is the creation of the SMT pick and
place programs. Our designers have had had a free rein for many years. As
a result, the part orientations vary all over the place. after we create a
PnP program, we must then go in and check/ correct every part on every
board! What a terrible waste of time and money!
Do consult with the ultimate end user of your design (the assembler) and
you will find that your overall process will be more cost effective and you
will have a shorter "design-to-market" turnaround.

Subject: [DC] PCB Footprint standard for smt polarised components?
Hi Everyone,
When creating smt polarised component geometries on your cad system for pcb
design do you create them horizontally with the polarised side to the right
or the left? In other words is there a standard for this when creating
PCB footprints?
Best Regards,
Paul Arklay
