Having come from that organization (Lockheed Martin) I agree the
visuals were quite good, but they were based on excerpts from
the aforementioned Mil specs - some more stringent than
        necessary in commercial applications.

The color visuals in the hard copy IPC docs are quite excellent
and have the various class acceptability requirements listed.
This is very informative when building for various Customer
types (As we do in the company I work for).

I agree when others says it is VERY time consuming and expensive
to maintain your own specs. There is almost nothing you
couldn't find better documented in the IPC specs at any rate.

hi,

if they are still available, you might want to check out a set of visual
criteria that were available from what used to be martin marietta in
orlando, florida. (it's now lockheed martin). i've found them to be
quite good.

Rudolph,
I would like to strongly discourage you from going down the road of
setting
up your own set of standards. Writing standards and keeping them
current is
very time consuming and EXPENSIVE. The IPC specs are becoming the
industry
specs for North America, at least, especially with the death of the US
Mil
specs, which our military electronics brothers used. The only upside I
can
think of to having your own standards is that you can use them to record
deltas from IPC specs and cover things that IPC does not or does not yet
do
well. Other than that there are no upsides to having your own
standards.
At least that's how I feel about it.

regards,
Bev Christian
