Alan,
How often do you take your reading during a shift??

Wilber,
I use the Wave Solder Optimizer (similar to the Wave Rider). It measures
preheat temperature, and solder pot variables such as temperature,
dwell time,
left-right parallelism & contact time, wave depth.
It has worked out well as a tool to insure the same set-up especially
after
cleaning (removing the solder nozzle during maintenance).
We've set-up control limits on these variables and make corrections as
required
if the readings are out-of-control prior to running production hardware.
Good luck,
Al Kreplick
