Yes, I did, Mike! It is healed! I gave up on it after trying all manner
of help suggestions and pulled it from my machine. I installed an
external Hayes 14.4 fax modem and ran it for a while. I then decided to
put the Winmodem back into my machine for safe keeping and to see if it
created a conflict with the Hayes. At the next boot-up, I was prompted
to insert my installation disk for new hardware. I went ahead and did
so, going through the normal install process and re-booting when
prompted. Three times again, I was prompted to install the new
hardware's software and re-boot. I decided to just install until I got
tired or Wonders95 gave up. The fourth time was the ticket. My modem
works as if nothing ever happened!

I recall having gone through the install cycle during my previous
troubles and selecting "Cancel" after I was prompted to insert the
installation media the second time around. What have I learned? Keep
installing until Wonders 95 is satisfied (within reason), and no more
"soft modems".

Go figure!

Thanks to all for the many suggestions.
