Hi TechNet!
Galvanic corrosion is when you have two dissimilar metals that are
connected by a conductive media that generate a potential difference.
The less corrosion resistant metal will become the anode and the more
corrosion resistant metal will become the cathode - many folks call
this electrochemical corrosion. The more dissimilar the metal pair,
the larger the potential difference, the more corrosion takes place.
Take a look at "Corrosion Engineering" by Fontana and Greene, ISBN
#0-07-021461-1 for more info. Yes, you will get galvanic corrosion if
you have gold in contact with solder AND a conductive media (i.e.
water) is present. What is your use environment? Will a conductive
media be present and for what time period? Don't just look at if you
have a galvanic corrosion possibility but what is the risk impact
based on your use environment and desired functionality. Good Luck.

Hello technetters, I will try this for the fifth time,I apologize if your
file is loaded with this request, it has been returned to me as undelivered
mail.
If a gold finger with splashes of tin/lead on it "does not" make contact
within a gold socket, will there be galvanic corrosion.
Unfortunately IPC-A-600 does not address reliability issues, if there is
reference material out there, I would like to know.
