Morning Jim-
I have used both hot and cold set resins for microsectioning without
problems but would recommend that you use a cold set resin. If the
resin gives off heat (exotherms) as it cures you have the possibility
of changing something in the mount that may be of interest (e.g.
solder structure). Many of the cold set resins also have better sample
edge retention which makes the metallographers much happier when they
don't cross contaminate their polishing wheels.
