Good Morning Jim -
Sorry but there are only a couple of choices for you to follow -
either work closely with your component vendor for solderability
testing or remove some components from the reels for in-house
solderability testing. The point that the -001 specification is trying
to make is that for soldering processes to deliver high yields you
need to take a proactive approach - work with the vendors that sell
you the materials you input to your processes rather than finding out
the problems after processing.

Subject: GEN: J-STD-001 SOLDERABILITY
Author: [log in to unmask] at ccmgw1

Hello, once again. I've been away for a while... now I'm back.
I'd like to know how some of you guys/gals are meeting the solderability
maintenance paragraph (5.4) of J-STD-001. The requirements states "The
manufacturer must ensure that all components,... are solderable at the start of
hand and/or machine soldering operations."
This seems especially difficult when the majority of parts are packaged on tape
and reel.
Any help will be appreciated.
Glad to be back,
Jim Marsico
