Motorola Inc. is interested in hiring a physicist (or equivalent 
degree/experience) for its two-way radio communications group located in 
Plantation Florida. Responsibilites include conducting qualifications 
/evaluations, and failure analysis of connectors. Duties will include 
consultation on connector design, and evaluation of connector's performance for 
the intended application, plating and encapsulant materials, conducting 
realibility studies (e.g., accelerated corrosion tests), and analyses using 
electrical and mechanical test equipment and analytical instruments (e.g., 
scanning electron microscope, and other microscopy equipment, X-ray 
fluorescence.  This individual will also utilize statistical methods in 
determining the quality and reliability of the parts, update testing and 
evaluation methods as technology advances, and must interpret specifications and 
applicability for Motorola use. In addition, it will determine suitability of 
non-conforming material for factory or field use, also requiring data 
collection, analysis of results, and implementation of corrective actions by 
interfacing with suppliers to insure that high quality parts are received. 
Additional responsibilities include evaluation of vendors through surveys and on 
site inspection, and it will maintain liaison with Purchasing, Development, and 
Technical Operations for resolution of material problems. Command of English, 
problem solving ability, high initiative, good planning skills, and ability to 
interface with required personnel, work in teams, and work with minimum of 
supervision are also required. Familiarity with IC interconnect and testing will 
be helpful.
