We updated our conformal coating programs (selective spray) to avoid our 2D barcodes, both label and laser engraved. I didn't investigate other barcode scanners at the time as it seemed easier to modify our programs than to buy a bunch of new scanners. For 2D matrix barcodes in general, I've had good success with a Zebra DS4308 XD. But I don't know if it would work well through coating.

Thanks,

Subject: EXT: [TN] Barcode scanners through conformal coating

We are printing 2D Aztec barcodes on Brady thermal transfer labels made out of polyimide material and applying these onto our circuit assemblies.

We then apply conformal coat (Humiseal 1B73 or 1A33) on the assemblies and also the label. Our current barcode scanner, Zebra DS2208, cannot read the labels after coating.

What make and model of scanners are you using successfully for this situation?

Thanks
Peter
