According to American Bureau of Labour Statistics, there were 808,600
people working in the commercial electronics industries in the US, the year
was 1985. They represented 4% of the total industry. The number of employees
was much higher 1965, declined and increased again until 1985, but began to
go down again and is still doing that. The reason is the massive
competition from the East.
The prognosis is that the consumer electronics will minimize still more,
while the military, microwave and computer industry will go up (if the
country can get top skilled workers).
