Hi Suganthi!

What comes to mind immediately:

-What are the TSSOP pins made of? If they are one of the stiff, old style leadframe alloys like Alloy 42, then probably no issues. But if they are a newer, higher copper content alloy, then the unsoldered pin is in danger of being bent somewhere you probably won't want it.

-Solder mask is not an insulator--it is just designed to inhibit solder wetting. So there is still a chance of the NC pin making contact to whatever conductor you put in place of the pad for the NC pin.

-If you break off the NC pin as part of your process, then I see no issue unless the device has only two pins left on the side where you aren't soldering the NC pin. Obviously if there is only one weak pin left on that side, you need to be concerned as to whether too much force will be put on that remaining pin due to cleaning and other handling.

Subject: [TN] Help me - NC pin without pad on the pcb

Dear All

My layout has a tssop pacakage which doesn't have a pad for 1 NC pin( Intentional design, there is a need to have space near to this pin.) , My Quality head has stopped the production and says this is not accepted , because of this we need to go for an another revision where there is no time in the project plan .

Actually I wanted to convince my quality team, before that I want to make clear myself abou the known issues / rules behind it. .Pls help me Techies

In this scenario what kind of a problem can we expect ?

Thanks in Advance.

Have a great day ahead.

Thanks and Regards
Suganthi,CID
