Hi Rich - we use solder/dross recovery equipment (we call them solder
"boots" because of their shape) in three of our facilities and we put the
recovered solder bars back into the wave solder machine. I have conducted
a couple of metallurgical composition tests on the recovered bars to see
if they contained an excess of any elements and did not find anything that
I considered an issue. We have about 5-6 years of history with no issues
to date.

[TN] Local Solder Dross Recovery & solder joint reliability
I was surprised to have searched the TechNet archives and not found much
recent discussion on this topic.
Can I get any of your thoughts on the reliability of solder joints that
includes solder that was locally recovered from dross taken from the
same manufacturing site?
