I am looking for information regarding anode configuration for a new
electroplating tank. I have tried to find articles on the subject but
most descriptions are vague and authors leave it up to the plater to
determine details such as where to put anodes.

The cathode area will be fixed panel size. I will use anode bars rather
than baskets because the small tank volume.
My supplier for acid copper chemistry recommends an anode current
density 0.5 to 2.5 dm^2, so that helps determine anode surface area.

When calculating anodes surface area, should I include both front and
back sides of sheets ?

How much space should I allow between the "blind" side of the anode and
tank wall ?

What is practical minimum spacing between anode and cathode ?

What is a typical ratio of anode to cathode surface area ? Some texts
say 2:1, others say 1:1.

Adam Seychell
