Hi Ajay,
Nice to hear from you after a while. All the exemptions are subject to periodic review (every 4 years) to see if alternative materials/process have been developed to replace the hazardous material in them. From my collective knowledge, the EU will give at least 2 years for implementation of these new "non-exemptions" into new products.

Thanks John for mentioning that relays with cd are exempt.I had all my
relays redmarked.All the same where can one get an updated list of such
priviledged devices (exempt)for us to scratch  off the 'suspects' list
Also are these exemptions lifelong or 'upto the year xxxx' type

I think part of the ban on cadmium was not researched very
well before the RoHS legislation was published.
