Hi Werner,

Makes sense that it has a name! I was only in Beijing a couple days...hiked
up the Great Wall and the smog was not horrible simply because there was a
little rain. I only coughed for a few hours ;o). But the air had lots of
dust in it from recent sandstorms - the cars in the parking lot looked like
they'd been through a mud storm. Here's a photo I took - gives you an idea
of what it was like:

  It is called the "Beijing Cough." We were on a cruise a couple of years
back, and just about everbody suffered from it for about a week. Some people
quite badly. I guess that is why they wear those masks.
