Hi Fellow Techies-
I am trying to get current on hot bar/laser soldering. I've had
experience with the Panasonic Soft Beam. We have an appication where I
am looking to replace hand sodlering of QFPs and SOICs with an automated
process - I can't use mass reflow due to some material incompatability
issues. I've used a Farco pulsed hot bar soldering system in the late
1980s (yes I'm dating myself) and also a Hughes Hot Bar soldering
system. The major problem we had in the past was when we stencil printed
and reflow the solder, the resulting convex shape would cause the leads
of QFPs to skew off to one side prior to completing the hot bar
soldering. We used Raychem SolderQuik (a ribbon of solder with a
polyimide web ) to overcome that issue. What concerns and experiences
does anyone have to offer.

Thanks
