The cost comparison of ENIG and ImAg on a board bases can run from 0 to
25% depending upon the location of the supplier. If the supplier is in
China the cost difference is small in North America it may be as much as
25% more for ENIG.
If you are using a Chinese shop you may also want to consider Flash Gold.
All of the Chinese shops I have visited have this process which is
electrolytic gold and nickel. A large fraction of the boards in China are
built with this coating and so far I have not heard of any issues. I have
several customers who have successfully converted from ENIG to Flash Gold.
Normally, the cost is slightly more than HASL, but like everything in
China it is negotiable.
