You need to define it for coworkers?

As far as I know there is not "official" explanation or definition for
"X-Outs".

It is performed to achieve one or more of the following;

A defective board within an array will be identified to ensure it is not
used (populated, further processed, etc). Typical methods of "X-Out" include
an "X", obviously, in indelible ink. Marking with etching pen, razor knive,
etc. or other means to ensure the product is clearly identified as
unsuitable for use.

In the past the board was just punched or drilled to signify unfit for use.

Subject: [TN] X-Outs

Hi all,
Does the IPC or anyone define the term "X-Out" officially?
I've used the term for years at other companies but now need to define
it
for
my current co-workers.
Thanks.
Ken
