I didn't mean to imply that it was already in IPC-T-50, but that if it
was to be an accepted term it should reside there. If we can agree to
some standard verbiage, I will take the action item to address the
Committee for it's inclusion.

I require them to drill out the fiducials of the bad PWBs so they can be
verified by AOI as well as visual methods. It also prevents placement or
other processes which key off fiducials for calibration prior to
placement. This the same as a X-out.
The term should reside in IPC-T-50 if you want universal acceptance of
the term or practice.

As far as I know there is not "official" explanation or definition for
"X-Outs".
It is performed to achieve one or more of the following;
A defective board within an array will be identified to ensure it is not
used (populated, further processed, etc). Typical methods of "X-Out"
include an "X", obviously, in indelible ink. Marking with etching pen,
razor knive, etc. or other means to ensure the product is clearly
identified as unsuitable for use.
In the past the board was just punched or drilled to signify unfit for
use.
