Subject: Re: [LF] Exemptions

Hi Kirby, IPC LF Listservers,

<There are people I know say that production equipment used for the

assembly of electronic equipment (circuit boards) was exempt from RoHS.

I

have not seen anything that confirms this or states this type of

equipment

is covered under RoHS. Can anyone clearify this? What about spare

parts,

it looks like to me that spare parts are exempt for equipment placed

into

the EU before 1/7/2006.>

If you go back and read this IPC Listserve and all our notes over our,

and

I do mean OUR, many years you will find you are correct. Reading the

Directives is always a good idea.

The EU Directives are first directed to the average consumer, or like-

consumer application of EEE. After all this is the predominant waste

stream

that the EU sees as damaging to the EU Environment. And the EU is

probably

correct in their assesment.

The B-to-Business consumer is a bit, or can be, a bit different.

One precaution, many are extending the EU Directives to other items that

aren't really mandated which includes BtB waste. This is a natural

process

of people over reacting.

Yours in Engineering, Dave

P.S. Say hello to WalterP from your facility.
