I have seen large multilayer ceramic capacitors cleave as a result of
ultrasonic cleaning. This is insidious, as electrical testing reveals no
problem, but part of the component is held only by a thin solder film
and can fall off (shock, vibration, thermal excursions????), reducing
the capacitance value. Visual inspection reveals nothing abnormal, until
you look under a 500 x microscope when you can just see a minute crack
along the line of cleavage.
