Reuven:
The NEMI test method and the classes can be downloaded from the NEMI website
at:
http://www.inemi.org/cms/projects/ese/tin_whisker_activities.html
Select the link "paper" next to the item Tin Whisker Acceptance Test
Requirements (NEMI Tin Whisker User Group, updated July 28, 2004)
Class 2 is the best performance rating you can get from a tin plating.

Subject: [LF] NEMI Class 2 (Wisker length 40 micron max)
Hi All,
Pls inform if you fameliar with NEMI class 2.
Do you have a link to such classes of NEMI?
There is a spec. for wiskers length?
The bellow is the component supplier info. about his status:
"We completed the lead free testing, but the
product only
meets NEMI Class 2 (max. whisker length 40 micrometers). We are working on
qualifying another plating solution at this time. Please check with the
customer if Class 2 is acceptable for their application."
Best Regards
