I thought the first Pb-F airliner flights had already been fully booked

up for all Euro-MPs and Brussels bureaucrats who have brought this

"beneficial" legislation into being. It was to be a round the world trip

by way of a thank you for saving us all from lead contaminated doom.

Regards,

Chris

Hi Brian! The aerospace and aeronautic industry sectors are currently

not

exempt from the RoHS directive - the directive contains no wording

documenting such an exemption. However, as part of the current EU TAC

Stakeholder Consultation activity, an exemption (and wording for the

directive) has been proposed. Most folks agree that the RoHS directive

was

not intended for the aerospace and aeronautic industry sectors but

without

specific wording in the directive, "interpretation of intent" is not

fact.

I imagine flying on the first Pbfree electronics plane using a July 1

2006

implementation deadline would be interesting - I'll watch it from the

ground! :)

The aerospace industry is exempted from RoHS, although Airbus Industries

are attempting, as far and as fast as possible, to comply. The problem

is that most of the essential electronics comes from the USA, notably

from Boeing (ironic, isn't it?). As for WEEE, one hopes that the

electronics are recovered from crash sites :-(
