That's why I do backups and burn them to DVD's

The problem here is that you take your little portable hard drive with you
and it gets dropped or sytolen in the resturant or taken or trashed some
other way, or it just plain "crashes", and then you are out of luck because
all of your important data is lost, and anyone who stole it can now get your
important data easily.

No different than if you had taken your laptop with you anyway.

The real answer here is to have one of these little things with an "erase"
or "format" function built in, that required a seperate password or
something similar, or possibly checked for a "Key" fi;e that you would have
on any computer that you owned or used, and which would self destruct, data
wise, if you plugged it into another system.
