You can make your own, I did. I used a old laptop HD I had one laying around
and bought a case, they make the case has the USB built, so all you do
is pop the drive into the case u have a portable hd a lot cheaper
than buying a mobile HD unit.
Here's a link for the case, there are tons of different styles and
sizes u need to get the one for the laptop drive which 2.5 inches.

this ones $24.95

btw IMHO George, the last time I looked the USB 2.0 beat Fire wire,
IEEE1394 has some capability issues
USB 2.0 1.5 Mbit/s 12Mbit/s 480Mbit/s supported.
Firewire 100 Mbit/s 200Mbit/s 400Mbit/s supported

Do a google on "hard drive" usb, you will find a lot of them out there

Or, if you have a firewire port, google "hard drive" firewire (much faster
than USB).

Suzy Webb made a good suggestion to me just a minute ago...
In my class at Palomar College, good ol' Steve Toothacre came to class with
a pocket size hard drive that he carried around with him to store backups
on... I believe the link below is similar to what he bought at Fry's
Electronics for about 200 bucks. They 'plug and play' right through the USB
port... or with a 'firewire' cable...

http://www.pockeyeurope.com/products/pocketvault.htm

I will definitely purchase one of these for backups and keep it in a
separate place from the laptop as a backup... I think his would fit in a
shirt pocket like my pocket calculator size...

Some folks don't need 30 GB of storage and can get away with the keychain
models like the following one....
http://www.pockeyeurope.com/products/flashdrive.htm

They can store up to 1Gb

Might be a life saver...

Best regards,

Hi Pete

I bought another computer as soon as I got home. I had the other one (Sony)
for only 4 months so there wasn't much work on it yet. Just lucky I guess.
I have not contacted my home owner's insurance company yet. Hopefully, they
will cover some of the loss. I bought a Fujitsu C series Lifebook. It
should do the job.

I sure look forward to seeing everyone in March at PCB West. For PCB
designers, It is still the "Greatest Show On Earth". No other conference
has so much to offer to PCB designers. And, no one else has the "Porch
Dawgs". One of my friends took a new job with the stipulation that he be
allowed to attend the PCB conference every year. He convinced his new
employer that the investment in education would be returned ten fold to the
company.

Good to hear from you. I can't wait for my hug.

Love, Mary
