We had a motherboard built for us by a small assembly house that hand soldered the assembly.  The board is .19 thick, 17 layers with a 2oz. ground or power plane on every
other layer.  There were approximately 3500 solder joints per board, on the last lot I checked they achieved a DPMO of approximately 7.5.  Management was looking for a less
expensive assembly house, but my QA engineer and I were able to convince them not to fix what isn't broken.
