Barbara,

Ah, those were the good old days. The smell of the etchant and developing fluids. Bishop Graphics for laying out the traces. Film leads and Mylar drafting film. Save the rubylith for when you get a broken tail light. Gee, and I still have all my drafting equipment and slide rule.

Did you learn DOS to run your computer too?

Grin!

Phil

OK, I just have to jump on this eraser thing, because I just read an
email about how much times have changed.

If you ever did drafting work with a lead pencil and an electric eraser
(using a shield), you will understand what Dewey is actually refering
to. A gray number 4 ink eraser stick is not just your normal pencil
eraser. These are the grade we used for removing India Ink applied with
a Leroy Lettering instrument (anyone remember those?) onto velum. This
eraser would go right through the velum if you were not very careful. It
will also be ebrasive enough to go through soldermask. And it will not
take a week.
Your coffee will not even get cold.

How old am I?
At least old enough to have had a great working relationship with Bishop
Graphics and still have an old roll of rubylith in the closet. I can't
even sell that on Ebay.

Sit down at your desk with a scrap board and a pencil eraser...start
erasing...email us when you've reached copper and/or glass...talk with
you
in a week...

hi,

why would that be? the eraser is acting as an abrasive wearing its way
through the mask (or conformal coat for that matter) down to the foil.
it
sounds like a clever idea to me. i think you'd want to check and make
sure
that no esd is generated if the board is populated. if the board isn't
populated then who cares?

Interesting, I'm thinking if an eraser can remove solder mask from
copper
then that solder mask was not applied correctly...hmmmmmm
