I've seen it done with a laser apparatus that maps the contour of the surface. I had it done annually. Wear on the surface can change the flatness/contour of the surface. Try to minimize wear by keeping it covered with something non-abrasive and not letting people use it for storage space.

Also, in regards to calibration recall, would this need to be on a recall
