You may want to sacrifice one board and have cross sections taken to analyze and identify what may really be going on at those plated thru-holes. Have this done by an independent lab. Once you get the results back, let us know what they are -- at that point we'll all be better prepared to advise. For now...be really nice to your supplier -- he's more likely to be responsive to your requests -- even if you have to grit your teeth :-)

Subject: [TN] Pink Ring

Greetings!

I'm having conversations with a board vendor. We received some boards
that are showing signs of Pink Rink (Actually it's Green Ring on these
boards...). I know IPC-A-600 & 610 & J-STD-001 all say that Pink Ring
is acceptable. However - past shipments of boards from this vendor do
not have Pink Ring and if he didn't sharpen his drill bits on-time, why
should I accept this anomaly.
Additionally some of the areas that exhibit pink ring are bordering on
what looks like an internal delaminations.

My thoughts are:
Order of Precedence is what is agreed by the customer & vendor and the
IPC documents are below what the customer wants.
If the vendor's quality or process has changed to exhibit Pink Ring (or
any other anomaly), I don't feel I have to accept what I would consider
a lower quality item than was previously supplied.

Questions: Any new info on Pink Ring or other cosmetic anomalies? What
would you do???

Thanks
