Genny,
    If you received boards that had a tin finish it is more than likely White
Tin Immersion.  I cannot speak for all chemical vendors but I know ours has
been tested for whiskering and passed easily.  You can retrieve the
information we have compiled on our web site at: www.floridacirtech.com  You
will find an independent lab study done by Trace Labs addressing your
question regarding whiskers.
    Our white tin is called "Omikron"  other vendors are selling tin under
different names some better than others, It does matter which tin you use and
of course the board house has to apply it correctly.   You can e-mail me
