Dropper titration kits should be available from your supplier. It can be as
simple as a small dropper bottle of Phenolphthalein indicator and HC1. To
get higher +/- accuracy you can use the digital titrators available from
Hach but 9 times out of ten the HC1 is left stored in the box and the acid
fumes destroy the testers. 
This method below taken from a SOP we use is simple and anyone on the floor
can do it and that is a good thing.

Way back, last century when I use to build cleaners, the on board pH meter
options were pricey and never worked correctly. Got a boat load of
complaints. Partly due to factors mentioned in this thread.
Conductivity meters may have some merit but a method would need to be
tested/developed with your juice and soil.

Bottom line, keep it simple and insure your bath gets tested every day.



4. SUMMARY OF METHOD: A test kit was developed for field measurement of high
alkaline pH aqueous cleaners.

6. APPARATUS: pH Meter (optional)

7. REAGENTS AND MATERIALS:

a. High Alkaline Test Kit 
Including:	
1. 250 Erlenmeyer flask or beaker
2. Syringe (25 ml)or graduated cylinder (10 ml)
3. Phenolphthalein Indicator (High Alkaline) 
4. 0.5N Acid Titrant (HCl)

8. HAZARDS AND PRECAUTIONS: Review MSDSs enclosed.

9. STATISTICAL CONTROL: This is a field maintenance method used to maintain
cleaner concentration within a relative range of ± 4% with different
operators or ± 2% with the same operator running the test. Accuracy is
increased if the factor is established at the job site.

10. CALCULATIONS: % Cleaner Concentration = drops titrant X factor

11. PROCEDURE:
a. Using a cup, take about 500 mls cleaning solution from a thoroughly
agitated tank.
b. Using a graduated cylinder or syringe, transfer sample (as determined by
the chart listed below) to the Erlenmeyer flask.
c. Dilute as desired with water. Volume usually is not critical.
d. Add 5-10 drops indicator (or as much as is needed to get good color
development).
e. While swirling, hold acid titrant bottle exactly vertical and add drops
to endpoint listed below.
f. Record the number of drops titrant used.
g. Calculate: % Concentration = drops titrant X factor listed below

{NOTE: Chart #'s are provided by your chemical supplier}
