Hi Technetters,

I agree somewhat with Joe, however there are some reasons to go with Liquid to
Liquid thermal cycling. First of all it is much faster, and the data can be
obtained quicker. One thing that one must bear in mind is that Air to Air
cycling with a CO2 boost is that Electrically sensitive devices such as MOS
devices can be destroyed due to the BiPolar nature of the CO2. A Liquid
Nitrogen boost system is preferred in this case to that of CO2, or strictly a
refrigerated system.

How many failures? That depends on which cycle the failures occur.
Theoretically you could cycle until all devices fail. Consider the purpose of
thermal cycling to begin with. The purpose is an accelerated test to determine
the reliability of that device over some lifetime. The desired lifetime or
demand is up to the particular project in question.
