     Hi Pete -

There are still solderability requirements imposed on you (and most of
the rest of us) regardless of the demise of many military
specifications. Check out the individual component specifications that
you purchase your components against - you will find either: a) a
internal solderability requirement; b) a solderability requirement
that the specific component vendor is willing to guarantee. There are
still solderability specifications in use: ANSIJ-STD-002 (components),
     ANSIJ-STD-003 (boards), and MIL-STD-202,method 208 to name three. I
realize that you are going to run into problems with folks thinking
that solderability testing is no longer a requirement because of the
specifications going away but remind them that we got hit with those
rules because of solderability problems in the first place. The
positive aspect of the mil spec requirements going away is now you can
set up a solderability test/inspection program that fits your needs
and type of product. Most of the component vendors are very willing to
work with you on setting up a system that is a win-win type of
     situation. Good Luck.

Since just about all of the written solderability requirements been
eliminated with the deletion of Military Specs. -
1) do you still utilize a system for controlling the solderability of your
components?
2) if so, how?
