Changing to Titanium will not help!

Steel is 1.8 times as stiff as Titanium and much cheaper to buy (especially
in UK). Titanium is also harder to machine / punch and cannot be hardened as
easily.

If you want to double the stiffness of the plates make them 25% thicker
(cube law for stiffness).
