It seems to me too close. Is it from the centre of the pin to the edge of adjacent SMD part?

For ERSA multiflow and Inertec we use as a best robust free of wash offs 3.7- 4 mm from the edge of the selectively soldered pad to the edge of the adjacent SMD pad. For ERSA Versaflow ( single nozzle ) it can be much smaller 2.5 - 3 mm depends on configuration and layout . Other machines ( Soltec, Pillarhouse you should research ...)

Best regards

Jack,

I use 0.100" as a target clearance. This will accommodate the majority of
machines and also selective solder pallets.

John

Subject: [TN] Selective Soldering Nozzle Clearance

Greetings,

For anyone who does selective soldering:

I need to design a circuit board that has a few through-hole parts that will
be soldered using a selective soldering machine, but I haven't found out
exactly which one it is yet (ELSA). Is there a DEFAULT clearance I should
keep my SMT parts away from those Through-Hole pins, or do I really have
to customize it per machine?

thanks,

Jack (aka "the new guy")
