That would not be a good idea, since when the card is out, there would be a distinct possibility that the pins from the top and the bottom connectors would come together, causing a short if the smart card chip were centered, (symmetrical positioning) as all I have seen do.  If the positioning of the chip was offset (asymmetrical positioning), then it would work OK!

 Our components procurer just asked if I knew of a source
for a Smart Card connector that had contacts on both sides
so the card could still be read when inserted "upside down."
Has anybody used such a connector and can you tell me
how to get information on it?
