Ask the question this way round:
Would it be OK if I poured a quart of flux into the wave solder pot? 
Approximately: Solder paste is 90% metal and 10% flux, so it sounds as though it
would be OK to tip it in a regular solder pot. However those numbers are by
weight, solder is heavy stuff so by volume paste is about 50% flux. So if you
put 10  kg of paste into a solder pot you are actually adding around a quart
(US) of fluxy stuff.......
