A gentleman by the name of Gerald White in Mesquite, Texas (just
outside of Dallas) patented a process many years ago using a variation
of sputtering. He used the term "Mag-ion" plating. Texas Instruments
had played around with it for several different uses, unfortunately I
left before any really useful information came out of the project.
(This was about 4 years ago.)
I also believe that an Australia PCB shop (Linguard or something like
that) has been producing boards with this process for several years.
Regards,
Jamie Baumgart

I have heard rumors from a few suppliers around the industry there is a
research group that is attempting a direct metalization method through a
plasma sputter coater. Has anybody heard of such research?
